About Joseph Avnon

Interior designer Jonathan Avnon established Joseph Avnon Interiors more than a decade ago, with a focus on creating considered, comfortable homes with a clear sense of individuality. He is now based in Cape Town and works with residential clients locally and across South Africa.

Jonathan works directly with each client, from the initial concept and design development through to sourcing, installation and final styling. His involvement throughout brings continuity to the process and ensures that every stage is closely managed.

Projects range from furnishing and decorating existing homes to extensive renovations. Furniture, cabinetry, lighting, window treatments, artwork and accessories are considered together as part of the overall interior, with trusted suppliers, makers and tradespeople brought in as required.

The result is a home that feels comfortable, personal and right for the people who live there—a place they genuinely love coming home to.

Interior Designer Cape Town

After studying Interior Design at Chelsea College of Arts in London, Jonathan established Joseph Avnon Interiors in Johannesburg in 2015, naming it in honour of his grandfather, Joseph.

His portfolio includes residential projects in Johannesburg, along the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast and in Cape Town, where he is now based. He brings more than a decade of experience to every project.

His work balances practical space planning with a considered use of colour, texture and detail. Each interior reflects his design sensibility while responding to the character and setting of the property and the needs of the people who live there.

Interior Design Process

Each project follows a clear and considered process, from the first conversation and design development through to procurement, installation and final styling. Jonathan remains personally involved throughout.

Initial Conversation

The process begins with a short phone consultation to discuss the property, proposed scope of work, preferred style and anticipated budget. This helps establish whether the project is a suitable fit before arranging an on-site consultation.

On-Site Consultation

Jonathan visits the property to gain a better understanding of the space, your requirements and the direction for the project. The fee is R1,250 for properties within 10 kilometres of Cape Town CBD. Consultations outside this area are quoted according to travel distance.

If the project proceeds, the consultation fee is credited towards the design fee.

Design Direction

An initial design direction is then developed, supported by mood boards and a preliminary estimate of the overall project cost. This provides an opportunity to review the proposed look, scope and budget before deciding whether to proceed.

If you wish to retain the mood boards before formally proceeding, a separate fee applies. This amount is credited towards the design fee if the project goes ahead.

Project Confirmation and Planning

Once the design direction, proposed scope and estimated costs have been approved, the project is formally confirmed. Detailed selections, layouts, custom elements, quotations and the project programme are then finalised before orders are placed.

Procurement, Installation and Styling

Once all selections and quotations have been approved, furniture, finishes and custom-made items are ordered. Deliveries, suppliers and tradespeople are coordinated as required, followed by installation and final styling.

Project Timing

Interior decoration and furnishing projects that do not involve extensive construction generally take approximately 8–10 weeks, depending on the final scope and supplier lead times. Renovation timelines are determined according to the extent of the work required.
