Interior designer Jonathan Avnon established Joseph Avnon Interiors in Johannesburg, where the business was based for nearly ten years before relocating to Ballito. Jonathan now works primarily along the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast, while continuing to undertake residential projects across South Africa.
Jonathan works directly with each client, offering a highly personal and hands-on service from the earliest conversations through to installation. Clients are guided carefully through every stage, with clear advice, thoughtful decision-making and close attention to the details that matter most. The aim is for the process to feel reassuring, structured and enjoyable, while creating a home they feel genuinely excited to live in.
Services range from complete interior renovations and space planning to furniture sourcing, custom cabinetry, window treatments, lighting, artwork and accessories. Trusted suppliers, makers and tradespeople are brought together as required, with Jonathan coordinating each element from the initial concept and sourcing through to ordering, installation and handover.
The result is a home that feels considered, comfortable and individual — a space that reflects the people who live there and, above all, one they truly love coming home to.
Jonathan completed his studies in Interior Design at Chelsea College of Arts in London before establishing Joseph Avnon Interiors in South Africa. Named after his grandfather, Joseph Avnon, the business was shaped around a belief that beautiful interiors should feel refined and thoughfully layered, with every detail carefully considered - comfortable to live in and personal to the people who call them home.
Jonathan’s approach combines careful space planning with a strong eye for colour, texture and detail. A considered mix of finishes, pattern and unexpected accents brings warmth and individuality to each project.
Interior Design Process
Each project follows a considered and structured process, from the initial conversation and design development through to procurement, installation and final styling.
Initial Consultation
The process begins with a brief phone consultation to discuss the property, the proposed scope of work, preferred style and anticipated budget.
This helps establish whether the project is a suitable fit before arranging an on-site consultation.
On-Site Consultation
The property is then assessed in person, allowing for a more detailed discussion of the client’s requirements, practical considerations and the design opportunities within the space.
The fee is R1,250 for properties within 10 kilometres of Ballito. Consultations outside this area are quoted according to travel distance.
Should the project proceed, the consultation fee is credited towards the design fee.
Design Direction
Following the consultation, a tailored design direction is developed, supported by mood boards and preliminary project cost estimates.
Should clients wish to retain the mood boards, a fee is charged. If the project proceeds, this amount is credited towards the design fee.
Project Confirmation and Planning
Once the proposed design direction, scope and estimated costs have been approved, the project is formally confirmed and a detailed programme is established.
Projects that do not involve extensive construction or renovation generally take approximately 8–10 weeks, depending on the final scope and supplier lead times.
Design Fee
The design fee is calculated at 12.5% excluding VAT of the total project value.
For projects below a certain overall value, a minimum design fee applies.
